Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to extend the theoretical formulation and the numerical methods introduced in the preceding chapters using the one-dimensional bar as a model problem to two- and three-dimensional deformable solids (Fig. 6.1). More precisely, the goal is to establish successively the continuous, discrete, linearised and algebraic equations which govern the mechanical response of an elastic, viscous or plastic solid undergoing large deformations, with the aim of developing a versatile isoparametric finite element.
