Abstract
We present deep near-IR long slit spectra of some starburst galaxies and template stellar systems (halo and LMC globular clusters of well known age and metallicity and ellipticals). Using proper IR spectral indices, which have been found to be powerful indicators of temperature in cool stars, some preliminary consideration on the dominant stellar population in the nuclear region of these galaxies are drawn.
