Abstract

The X-ray temperature distribution function of clusters of galaxies has been used many times to investigate the shape of the fluctuation spectrum and the bias in the galaxy distribution relative to the mass distribution (see Henry and Arnaud 1991, Blanchard and Silk 1991, Lilje 1992, Oukbir and Blanchard 1992). In this work, assuming that the bias is equal to 1 and that the universe is open, we use the temperature distribution to constrain jointly the value of Ω0 and n, the index of the initial power spectrum. We also compute the contribution of clusters to the X-ray background (XRB), the redshift distribution of number counts in both the open model and the critical universe, and finally we introduce a powerful test to distinguish between the two models.
