Abstract
In recent years the structural and dynamic properties of quantized vortex lines have been increasingly investigated with an experimental resolution capable of distinguishing individual vortices. Measurements on the superflow of 4He and 3He superfluids or on vortices in high-Tc superconductors have put our knowledge of quantized vorticity under detailed test. Here we emphasize the unifying features of vortices in both neutral and charged superfluids, while analyzing their shape and motion in a few example cases, where either one single vortex line or an ordered array of vortices is present. These examples illustrate the transition from single-vortex to collective vortex-array behavior and the consequences to the dynamic response from the vortices.
