Summary
To study the effect of changes of essential climate parameters (such as the solar flux) a two-dimensional ocean model for the northern hemisphere is constructed which takes into account advection and diffusion in the top layer and upwelling of cold water formed at the ice edge from the deeper parts of the ocean (for the not-frozen part). At the ice-line, which acts as an internal boundary condition, continuity of temperature and heat flux is required. This model is solved by analytical means in terms of hypergeometric functions, which give the possibility to determine the latitude of the ice-line by a non-linear equation and to study the stability in terms of the physical parameters.
