Abstract

In the preceding chapter we presented a comprehensive account of the principles underlying the observation of cosmic magnetism. On this basis, in this chapter we proceed to discuss some technical questions. We are aware of the fact that there are many kinds of instruments specially designed and constructed for magnetic measurements of heavenly objects (in particular, the Sun) and that most of them are quite sophisticated in their optical layout, mechanical structure and electronic circuits. In this chapter we want only to give a general description of some selected samples of these facilities. For the numerous technical details, the reader is referred to the specific literature. Furthermore, the magnetic observations of stars are related to some special questions, which will be treated in Section 9.1.
