An expert system with an external optimization module for quality control decisions

Part of the book series: Intelligent Manufacturing Series ((IMS))

Abstract

Artificial intelligence includes several fields of scientific research including natural language processing, artificial neural networks and expert systems. All are concerned with replicating and sometimes improving upon human abilities. For expert systems, the human traits of knowledge storage, rule of thumb invocation and inferential reasoning, are the areas of interest, and interpretation, prediction, design and monitoring are the tasks addressed (Martin and Law, 1988).
