Abstract
Complement is a family of interacting proteins in plasma which possess the capacity for limited proteolysis and self-assembly into active complexes resulting in cell lysis and immune adherence. Also included within the family are the naturally occuring inhibitors of the active components which serve as regulators of the cascade activation system.
