Abstract
Nortriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant with actions and uses similar to amitriptyline. It is reported to be less sedating but with more antimuscarinic action than amitriptyline. It is the main active metabolite of amitriptyline and shows the same genetically based wide inter-subject variability in metabolism, plasma half-life varying from 15 to 90 hours. The therapeutic range in plasma is 0.05-0.15 μg/ ml for patients with a diagnosis of endogenous depression.
