Abstract
Nandrolone or 19-nortestosterone is an anabolic steroid given by intramuscular injection with the protein-building properties of androgens but which causes less virilization in women. Clinical use in osteoporosis or treatment of aplastic anaemia is no longer recommended. Two major metabolites, 19-norandrosterone and 19-noretiocholanolone, are produced by reduction reactions in the liver and appear as glucuronide and sulphate conjugates in urine.
