Abstract
Glycopyrronium bromide or glycopyrrolate is a quaternary ammonium compound used as a peripheral antimuscarinic agent similar in action to atropine. It is used as a premedication, in the treatment of peptic ulcer and to relieve visceral spasm. Less than 25% is absorbed by the oral route. It is rapidly cleared from plasma following intravenous administration with < 10% remaining after 5 minutes. The antisecretory action lasts up to 3 hours. Eighty-five percent of excretion is in urine as mainly free drug and the remainder in bile. About 20% of the dose is metabolized by hydroxylation and oxidation.
