Numerical simulation of the impact resistance of composite structures

  • Chapter

Abstract

This chapter describes a practical and systematic approach to identify and calibrate damage and fracture mechanics models for composites. Also, several simple constitutive laws most suitable to characterize composite linear and nonlinear behavior including plasticity, damage and confined failure are outlined. The modeling of composite walls using finite element models for monolayered, multilayered and sandwich shells and solid elements is discussed.
