Abstract
The strength of ceramic materials is limited by the presence of defects or flaws. Such flaws commonly arise from agglomerates of particles present in the early stages of processing, which lead to packing inhomogeneities when the powders are compacted, and voids after firing. One effective method of minimizing the number and size of agglomerates, and also of mixing powders homogeneously, is to disperse particles by suspending them in a liquid. This is the so-called colloidal route to ceramic processing [1].
