Abstract

The menopause may have serious health consequences but maintaining the semblance of the premenopausal state by means of hormone replacement therapy also involves problems. The decision to use hormone replacement therapy is not simple and the best agent or agents to be used are not defined. The studies which have examined risks and benefits have not made clear which is greater-risk or benefit. Clinical application of such therapy involves careful assessment in each individual.
