Abstract

The transverse jet involves many phenomena yet not well understood and making this flow an interesting configuration for the study of turbulent mixing and vortex dynamics. Supersonic regimes interest more particularly aeronautical applications. Most of the research in this field has been devoted to lateral jet control. Supersonic mixing, with application to the SCRAMJET, are now motivating new studies. We have conducted an experiment on a supersonic transverse jet for providing a detailed flow data base, including the turbulence aspects (see [1],[2]). This paper gives a short overview of these results by focusing on some peculiar aspects of the physics of this flow.
