Abstract

Structures such as river dikes occasionally collapse because of breakdown in soil texture or soil particle washout. The concept of seepage failure and its causative conditions was often not well understood. This chapter attempts to line up mechanisms and causative conditions of seepage failure from a new point of view based on the writer’s recent investigations.
