Abstract
The United Kingdom is experiencing a gradual transition in the regulation of the competitive process. This has not occurred through a major reform of competition laws, or their enforcement, but by the privatisation programme carried out in the 1980s. This chapter examines developments in two key areas of competition policy mergers and the control of the privatised utilities in the telecommunications, energy and water sectors.
