Part of the book series: Current Plant Science and Biotechnology in Agriculture ((PSBA,volume 27))

Abstract

Both biological nitrogen fixation and chemical synthesis of ammonia from dinitrogen and dihydrogen are of great significance for human life. Up to the present time bacteria (free-living in the soil and in nodules in symbiosis with plants) perform the main part of nitrogen cycle in nature, and the industrial synthesis of ammonia provides people with necessary nitrogen-containing substances (fertilizers, plastic materials, dyes, medicaments, etc.).
