Abstract

Extensive structural studies of small molecules of fundamental biological importance such as amino acids and neurotransmitters have been undertaken using the experimental technique of supersonic jet microwave spectroscopy, the results from concomitant ab initio molecular orbital calculations have been instrumental in identifying the species detected spectroscopically by means of predicted conformer equilibrium geometries and electronic properties (e.g. electric dipole moments and nuclear quadrupole coupling constants).
