Abstract
Blood pressure elevation in hypertensive patients is commonly due to a rise in peripheral vascular resistance and in a minority of patients to an increase in cardiac output. Bearing in mind this pathophysiological background, it appears rational to reduce the elevated blood pressure levels by administering agents which lower or normalize the abnormal elevation of vascular resistances.
