Abstract
Among the various K+channels existing in vascular smooth muscle (VSM), the ATP-sensitive K+channel (KATP) deserves particular interest both from pathophysiological and therapeutic points of view. FirstlyKATPconstitute an important link between cellular energy metabolism and the contractile tone of VSM cells and may hence play a role in the regulation of tissueO Z supply. Secondly, potent vasodilator drugs are available for medical use which act via modulation of the open-probability ofKATPin VSM. Some of this material has been published elsewhere [1 2].
