Abstract

Oil shales have been pyrolysed under a number of regimes and the resultant oils characterised by Chromatographic fractions, GC, GC-MS, NMR analyses. In addition, to confirm the classification of oil shales investigated as Type I kerogen, biomarker compounds in the bitumen were identified and the oil shales characterised by single pulse excitation solid state 13C NMR.
