Abstract
Multimedia technology offers several possibilities for interface design in Geographic Information System (GIS) development. They can improve human-computer interaction. We present two applications developed at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB): ‘Flight of fancy: The Balearics’ (FoF) and ‘ParcBIT’. Both are produced on CD-ROM. FoF is the result of a project financed by the Commission of European Communities IMPACT 2 Program in the multimedia and GIS fields. It is a prototype aimed towards the evaluation of environmental impact in Mallorca at different levels. ParcBIT is an application used by planning teams who took part in the Developing Projects Contest. The context involved territorial information about the location of a future high technology park called Park of the Balearic Islands.
