Abstract

A model for optical amplification in an Er3+ doped fibre was treated, including saturation, fibre mode theory and ASE profile. The propagation equations were integrated numerically using a 4th order Runge-Kutta method and a computer C programme. The evolution of the pump, signal, and ASE optical powers along the fibre length was obtained, considering different fibre lengths and input conditions for pump and signal.
