Abstract
The psychological impact of cancer and its treatment is enormous for both the patient and the patient’s family. There are many factors which contribute to this impact: disease and treatment variables, the patient’s age and socioeconomic group, and the patient’s unique psychologic attributes. Each patient has a complex and individual emotional configuration. Two people of the same age, from the same socio-economic group, receiving similar treatments for the same disease may react quite differently to their experiences. Furthermore, just as individuals differ in their reaction patterns, so do families.
