Abstract
This chapter addresses the unique characteristics of the pecan industry, which operates under a competitive free market. The livelihood of pecan growers requires evaluation and reevaluation of marketing decisions. Assembling, storing, processing, and transporting must be done at a minimal cost. Tree nut consumption and prices change according to supply and demand. The pecan industry must efficiently market its product, prevent waste, and assure a supply of quality product at a competitive price in order to insure growth and stability.
