Abstract
Methods for the synthesis of structures augmented with noncollocated direct output feedback control systems are presented. Noncollocated control systems generate nonsymmetric system stiffness and viscous damping matrices and require that the real part of the system complex eigenvalues be constrained to be negative. In this work the approximation concepts approach to system synthesis is used. High quality approximations for system complex eigenvalues and steady state harmonic displacements and control forces are presented. Examples of structures composed of an assemblage of frame members, concentrated masses, and noncollocated control elements are used to demonstrate the method and the quality of the approximations.
