Optimization of Large Structural Systems

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 231))

Abstract

After discussing some general aspects of layout and generalized shape optimization, the theory of optimal structural layouts is outlined and then it is illustrated with several elementary examples. The difference between classical and advanced layout theories is explained and applications to least-weight grillages, trusses, shell grids, solid plates and perforated plates are briefly discussed.
