Abstract
Guttmann30 with his unique experience of some 2,000 patients treated at the Spinal Injuries Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital found some 898 complete, 604 incomplete and 461 cauda equina lesions. The incidence of injuries at different levels was:
Cervical | 24% |
Upper thoracic | 10% |
Lower thoracic | 43% |
Cauda equina | 23% |
Cervical | 15% |
Upper thoracic | 16% |
Lower thoracic | 69% |
The lumbar segments of the spinal cord lie opposite T 10–12 vertebrae. Below the level of L 2 damage involves the cauda equina.
