Abstract
The regeneration of the motor nerve and subsequent reinnervation of skeletal muscle is a phenomenon of great practical and theoretical importance, The motor axon is an extension of the cell body and when part of the axon becomes separated from the cell body and degenerates, the neurone attempts to restore its original shape and size by replacing its severed portion. This process is generally known as nerve regeneration. Although much information is available about the events that take place during nerve regeneration, many fundamental questions are still obscure. A brief account of the present knowledge on the different stages of motor nerve regeneration will be given.
