Abstract

Since the 1940s many special materials have been developed which are advantageous for magnetic records. These range from the popular gamma iron oxide to sputtered cobalt-chromium for perpendicular recording. The manufacture, properties, testing and uses of important record media are discussed in detail in this chapter. Tables and graphs specify physical and magnetic characteristics of particles, depositions, solid media and substrates.
