Abstract

The diet problem was one of the problems which led to the development of the theory of Linear Programming. It was first described by Stigler in a paper published in 1945 on The Cost of Subsistence’. In this chapter and in chapter four, we shall use the problem to motivate or interpret some of the definitions, theorems and techniques.
