Abstract
Presentation Herpes gestationis is a distinctive eruption which occurs during pregnancy or the puerperium. It most commonly presents in the third trimester and there is no particular age incidence. The initial lesions usually occur on the abdomen around the umbilicus (Figure 20.1), and soon spread to involve the abdomen and subsequently the rest of the trunk. The limbs are affected a few days later. The first lesions to appear are erythematous, urticarial patches. Subsequently blisters appear. The blisters are more common on the limbs than on the trunk. The blisters vary in size from a few mm to a few cm, are tense and do not rupture easily. The eruption is associated with severe irritation, which sometimes precedes the lesions.
