Abstract
Peptide YY (PYY) is a novel peptide of 36 amino acid residue with an N-terminal tyrosine (Y) and a C-terminal tyrosine (Y) amide (1). PYY and pancreatic polypeptide (PP) possess distinct structural similarities and therefore it has been proposed that they belong to the same family of peptides (1). PYY is localized in endocrine cells of the open type in the intestinal mucosa of several mammalian species (2). PYY decreases secretin-stimulated pancreatic secretion (1) and inhibits jejunal and colonic motility (2). Recently, Suzuki et al (3) have shown that PYY inhibits the interdigestive migrating contractions in the stomach.
