Elements of Combustion

  • Chapter
Engineering Thermodynamics

Abstract

To this point, our study of thermodynamics has been restricted to nonreacting systems. Because chemical compositions did not change at any point in the process, our thermodynamic analyses did not involve any chemical reactions. However, we will now consider a particular type of chemical reaction: combustion. Although this chapter provides only an introduction to the subject of combustion, it is included because of its importance to engineers.
