Abstract
There are two ways in which operation can alleviate disorders:

Surgery may be used to treat some abnormality of endocrine function, for example, the removal of a parathyroid adenoma in hyperparathyroidism.
-
Some abnormalities, not of function but of structure, may be treated surgically — for example, a simple goitre.
