Abstract
Apart from obesity, the most commonly occurring endocrine/metabolic disorders are those of the thyroid gland and diabetes mellitus. A survey carried out by the Royal College of General Practitioners found that the average general practitioner is likely to see seven new cases of thyroid disease and ten patients with a new diagnosis of diabetes each year. This compares to 25 patients with asthma and 35 with chronic bronchitis.
