Abstract

Electromagnetic fields propagate in space, in dielectrics and, to a limited extent, in plasmas and conductors. The basic properties of electromagnetic waves are revealed by studying their propagation in space, so we begin by solving Maxwell’s equations in free space for their wave solutions and then determine the flow of energy in these waves.
