Abstract
Ichthyosis comes from the Greek wordichthys, which means ‘fish’, as the skin in ichthyosis resembles fish scale. Ichthyosis is a disorder of keratinization. It may be hereditary or acquired. In hereditary ichthyosis the different genetic abnormalities lead to different biochemical processes and different clinical types of keratinization. Thus, hereditary ichthyosis forms a group of distinct clinical disorders with different clinical features and modes of inheritance.
