Abstract
Small central heating boilers are usually in the charge of a caretaker or porter who acts as part-time boiler operator and is responsible for maintaining heating and hot water services. This chapter is specially included to provide guidance on the operation and maintenance of this type of plant. Some sectional boilers are still hand fired with coke or anthracite and this is the type described, though much of the information is relevant to newer systems, especially that concerned with care and maintenance.
