Abstract
The detailed structure of the lower layers of the atmosphere is of special interest in many respects. This is the region in which the energy input to weather systems largely occurs and it is into these layers that the gaseous waste products of heating and industrial processes are released. Much of the work on the detailed characteristics and diffusive action of atmospheric flow has been concentrated on the surface layer for the obvious reasons of accessibility and practical interest. Relatively little information exists on the rather inaccessible regions above the surface layer, more especially those beyond the reach of tall towers.
