Abstract

Why do we study mathematics? What is the purpose of learning mathematics? The purpose, of course, is educational. Education develops a student’s potential. It helps the student to develop into a decent citizen, one who fulfills his or her given role in society. We study mathematics to gain a better understanding of and solve the mathematical problems that Me behind the incidents and phenomenon of everyday life. As with all other subjects taught in school, the purpose of teaching mathematics is to nurture citizens for productive life in the knowledge based society. Mathematics helps to foster problem-solving ability through the process of dealing with issues with various analytical methods. We also study mathematics to better grasp the structure of various phenomenon and to understand physical world.
