Abstract
The refractometric method of diagnosing water stress in plants was proposed by Lobov 1949 with a view to determining the watering-dates for the tomato plant as well as for other vegetables and potatoes (Lobov 1957). Later on this method was highly appreciated for diagnosing water stress in wheat (Galinskaya 1953 and Kalinin 1953, Petinov 1959), in maize (Tityov 1958), tomato (Babushkin 1959, Belik 1960), and sugar-beet (Chunosova 1963).
