Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 1))

Abstract

The problem of particle and radio emission from the sun is very intricate, and this report is an attempt in organizing the observed facts around the smallest possible number of physical ideas. No attempt has been made for completeness, and there is no doubt that this report has been distorted by the attempts of the author to understand the nature of the high energy phenomena taking place at the surface of the sun.

The report is divided in 3 sections: (1) Effects of high energy particles moving through the matter, (a) Elementary processes, (b) Wave phenomena; (2) Accelerating mechanisms; (3) Description and interpretation of solar phenomena.

The word high energy means only that the energy of the particles is large, compared to the thermal energy.
