Abstract
The conditions necessary for the formation of a world-system came to be only in the era of capitalism, when the development of the forces of production tied tightly together the economies of different countries…. The formation of a capitalist world-system was the result of uninterrupted fighting in all its forms: military, political, economic and ideological…. The capitalist world-system is a strict hierarchy…. It resembles a pyramid with a handful of developed powers on top and the vast majority of the backward and oppressed peoples on the bottom.
