Abstract
Professor Wartofsky’s paper has left me deeply puzzled. That may be all to the good. For there is an ancient philosophical tradition, according to which the realization of one’s ignorance is the first step on the road to knowledge. Perhaps tonight I have taken the first faltering step on that road. But let me tell you why I am puzzled.
