Abstract

Orthography.—The guiding principle was to transcribe and publish the texts, as far as possible, according to the pronunciation of singers. It was not possible for me to go into more subtle details concerning the less obvious deviations from the literary forms because of my lack of thorough training in phonetics; for example, various shades of ă, e, and so forth, had to be dropped.

The Preface published in Vol. I applies also to Vol. II. The former is made up of instrumental melodies; the latter contains all the melodies sung with text. The reader is asked to introduce the corrections of the list of Errata to Vol. II (p. 54), before studying the musical part.
