Abstract
In eastern Bohemia and probably also anywhere else in Czechoslovakia we isolated hundreds of strains, which are kept in our collection. However, only in two cases a T. rubrum-like dermatophyte has been obtained from lesions of chimpanzees, although thousands of domestic, laboratory or wild animals have been examined. No other dermatophyte of this group have been isolated by us from animals. We identified T. schoenleinii only once as the causative agent of a human dermatophytosis. Only epidemics in schools due to M. audouinii have been studied. T. megninii, T. tonsurans and T. violaceum seem to have disappeared more or less rapidly from our country. With the exception of T. tonsurans, numerous strains of these dermatophytes are preserved in our collection without marked morphological changes.
