Abstract

The choice of instruments for collecting samples from dermatophytic lesions of animals depends on their character. Mostly the hairy parts of the skin are affected and the epidermal scales have to be scraped off together with the hairs. The basic instruments are scalpels, cyretes and epilating or anatomical tweezers. The hairs must be removed with their intrafollicular parts, therefore clipping is not satisfactory. Scissors are only used for cutting hair around inaccessible minute lesions.
