Mass Loss from Stars

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 13))

Abstract

Recent studies of stellar models have uncovered instabilities associated with helium and hydrogen shell burning. The present paper describe some calculations of stellar models that include these unstable stages and discusses some of their possible consequences.

The influence of neutrino emission becomes very important during the helium shell-burning stage for stars more massive than 1M . Calculations are described that illustrate the influence of neutrino emission on stellar evolution up to the onset of carbon burning.
